1) You. I am an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard certified in First Aid and CPR. This product would benefit me and others with it's ability to reach drowning victims in the ocean more efficiently and effectively. This will lead to less drownings in the future as reaction time to reaching a drowning victim will increase.
2) What are you offering to customers? The lifeguarding drone is a remote control operated drone with a deployable flotation device to be used by lifeguards during rescues. The drone will also feature a tow rope that can help to pull people into shore with the use of the deployable flotation device as well as have cameras that are able to see the victim in the water as well as look out for sharks and other sea life.
3) Who are you offering it to? The lifeguarding drone appeals to beach-goers or people who have friends or family who are beach-goers. The introduction of the lifeguarding drone will help to reduce the number of drownings in the U.S. per year.
4) Why do they care? The consumer for the lifeguarding drone is very broad as a majority of people have either swam in the ocean or have friends or family who commonly swim in the ocean. It's purpose is to aid with the practice of preventative lifesaving.
5) What are your core competencies? I would be introducing the first full-time use of the lifeguarding drone in the US. The lifeguarding drone has been used in other countries like Spain and Chile. These countries have seen a significant reduction in the number of drownings since introducing the use of a lifeguarding drone in addition to lifeguards during rescues.
I believe the implementation of a lifeguarding drone to Florida's beaches can significantly help to reduce the number of drownings. The drone could also serve to warn swimmers of sharks to prevent shark attacks. I believe the hardest part of implementing lifeguarding drones is their immense cost; however, the government should help to fund these lifesaving devices. One flaw that the device possesses is dealing with the climate that it lives in. The salty water and air can very quickly lead to rust and other equipment malfunctions.
I think this is a brilliant idea, and honestly, Im not sure why I had never heard of it thus far. I am from Miami, so Ive spent plenty of time on the beach, and I certainly think that there would be a market for a product or idea such as this one. Of course, finding a way to make it durable through the salt and wind.
ReplyDeleteGreg- I think this idea is awesome. A few boys from my hometown went missing in the ocean this past fall and a device like this could have aided in their survival and helping to find them. If there was a way to make this work, I think customers would be 100% for it.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of introducing the lifeguard drone to the United States. What a great idea. I think it would be a fantastic service offered to beach goers. So many people come to our beaches and just because they swim in a pool or a lake they think the ocean is the same as what they are used to. I am in the ocean almost every day because I am a surfer. I think the lifeguard drone would be great in tourist destinations where there are a lot of swimmers in the water making it more difficult to find people in distress. I think it would also be great to use where people surf a lot. Sometimes you can get hit in the head by your board or another surfer’s board. Surfers are usually out pretty far so the quick deployment of the drone could be a real life saver. Just one thing, I would edit your 5th point on core competencies. Make sure you write a few things about you. What are the specific skills that would prepare you to be an entrepreneur? You touched on them in your 1st point. I hope you get a chance to see my napkin idea. ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of this product. Personally, I love going to the beach and swimming in the ocean, but I am terrified of sharks. Having a product like this would definitely put my nerves at ease as well as so many others who have this fear. I also think it would be beneficial in helping save lives. Pricing does seem like it could be an issue but maybe there could be a way to create them with cheaper material as well as material that will be sustainable in different climates?
